Exhibition and calendar launch – this Thursday!

October 17th, 2010 — 8:59pm

We’re only a few days away from the launch of Beards of Manchester 2011! From 6pm on Thursday 21 October, we’ll be taking over the Kestrel Suite at Common on Edge Street, where the 12 fine beards who made the cut will be exhibited – and the calendar will be available to peruse and buy.

The event, which is completely free to attend, will feature DJs playing a beards-only soundtrack, plus fancy dress fake beards as well as plenty of live specimens. There’ll also be some live music from bearded participants and other fun bits and pieces – so arrive early. Register your attendance through Facebook here.

And for a sneak peek of what to expect on Thursday, check out some photo out-takes from an interview we recently did with Manchester Fashion Network.

Photo shoots & calendar prep

October 7th, 2010 — 3:25pm

Friends of the Beards!

Just a quick update from us, since some of you seem desparate to get their hands on the official ‘Beards of Manchester 2011’ calendar (we had a request from New Zealand today, fact!). Our lovely photographer Gill Moore has been busy shooting, I mean, taking pictures of most of our favourite beard models – even braving the torrential rainstorm on Sunday morning! After the last shoots,  Young’s production machinery will kick in (picture hamsters in wheels and swinging pendulums here) to add the finishing touches to the calendar.

The official launch party (oh boy, and what a fab party that will be!) is on Thursday, the 21st October 2010, from 6pm at Common Bar in the Northern Quarter. You can buy the calendar right there, or from various other outlets in Manchester which we will announce soon.

Any questions? Want to stock the calendar? Contact us: info@beardsofmanchester.com

Lots of fuzzy love,

The Beards

Beards of Manchester 2011 – who made the cut?

September 29th, 2010 — 7:13pm

So we’ve been mulling over the 200+ beard submissions we received and, after much deliberating, have chosen the twelve lucky devils who will be featured in 2011’s Beards of Manchester calendar. They are Mad Dawg Pat, Wesley, tattooists Gre and Dan (together),  Ciaran, Jay, Louis, David, Dalpreet, Kev, Augustus, Marcus and Garry:

We wanted to stress that it was an impossibly difficult job reducing the list to just twelve – many of our favourite beards sadly didn’t make the cut. But fear not, for we have a cunning idea to incorporate everyone who submitted their pride and joy into the calendar! Watch this space – we’ll also be posting sneak peeks of the shoots, plus full details for the calendar and exhibition (both of which launch on Thursday 21 October at Common on Edge Street).

Aaaand… we’re done!

September 25th, 2010 — 9:07pm

208 beard photos in 14 days (that’s an average 14.9 submissions per day) should be proof enough that Manchester is one hairy city! Thanks to everyone who has grown, trimmed, waxed and curled their facial hair in the past couple of weeks to send us a picture. There were some absolutely fabulous specimens, some artsy, some outrageous, some that rendered us simply speechless.

Team Beard will now retreat for a couple of days to look at all the photos and decide which 12 beards will be invited to the Beards of Manchester 2011 calendar photo shoot.

Watch this space for announcements and information on the calendar & launch party on the 21st October.

Love,

The Beards xx

200 beards – and still going!

September 24th, 2010 — 8:38pm

We’ve just uploaded beard number 200 – thanks for your absolutely overwhelming support! The deadline is quickly approaching with 3 1/2 hours left to go before midnight.

But even after the deadline, Beards of Manchester won’t be over: we are going to pick the 12 best beards and announce them in the next few days. Manchester based photographer Gill Moore will take pictures of our favourites, which will then go in the Beards of Manchester 2011 calendar.

The launch party for the calendar will be held at Common bar on Thursday, 21 October from 6pm(ish). Details on the launch will follow – expect some hairy shenanigans!

Looking forward to seeing the last few submissions – spread the word & some hairy love!

The press coverage continues…

September 21st, 2010 — 8:06pm

We’ve had a bumper day for Beards of Manchester! First up, we’ve got the whole of page three in today’s Manchester Evening News, complete with interviews and photos – read it online here. Then we were featured in the Visit Manchester Blog, which is here. And then! We were interviewed for Rock Radio – you can listen to what turned out to be a lively, funny chat about all thing beardy on Steve Berry’s show tomorrow morning from 6am.

The beard submissions are continuing apace: we’ve just uploaded beard number 130 – check out the latest batch over in the gallery! Remember, you have until midnight on Friday to submit your own.

More beards on the radio

September 18th, 2010 — 8:55am
Friends of the Fluff: Jay, Matt, Chris, Louis

Matt White invited us to his show on BBC Radio Manchester yesterday, where our guests Louis Barabbas and Jay Taylor (featured in our beard gallery) held a “Miss World” style competition. You can listen to it again on BBC iPlayer until the 24th September. The beardage is on right at the beginning, after the music.

In other news: thanks for the amazing support and feedback! We have 92 beards in our gallery now (as of Saturday morning), and we’re confident that we’ll make it well past the 100. Thanks to all the beards, moustaches and facial hair fans in Manchester, you’re brilliant!

Love,

The Beards xx

Go fancy!

September 12th, 2010 — 4:13pm

Dear Mancunians,

we’re absolutely overwhelmed by the positive feedback and the amount of submissions we have received in the two days since Beards of Manchester went online. You’re all fantastic! Please don’t stop – spread the word, post on your blog, tweet about it, tell that person you know with the amazing beard that their help is needed!

Big thank you to Rainy City Tales who have posted a piece about Beards of Manchester – check out the brilliant photo on the blog!

We have received some magnificent beard photos so far: fuzzy, trimmed, ginger, black, pointy or simply huge – they’re all impressive. We’re still looking for some particularly fancy specimen, so all you waxed, curly, moustachioed, handlebared and goateed types: use your chance to show your beard to the world in the Beards of Manchester 2011 calendar – send us your picture now!

We’re looking forward to the next 10 days of hairy loveliness in Manchester.

Love,

The Beards xx
